研究方向与成果

Quality Team, led by Professor He Zhen from the School of Economics and Management at Tianjin University, consists of 2 high-level talents at national/provincial level, 6 professors, 2 full-time engineers, and 20 master's and doctoral students. The team focuses on quality engineering, Lean Six Sigma, quality assurance management, and quality management and innovation under the background of big data. They have been actively involved in the development of international/national quality standards and have received several honors such as the China Standard Innovation Contribution Second Prize, China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Second Prize, Tianjin Social Science Excellent Achievement First Prize, and Tianjin Science and Technology Progress First Prize.

Utilizing advanced management concepts and tools such as Lean Six Sigma, the team assists companies in optimizing production processes, reducing variability, enhancing production process stability, accelerating production efficiency, significantly improving the yield rate, reducing costs, and increasing benefits. In addition, the team provides support services such as quality training and quality improvement projects to enhance employees' quality management awareness and elevate their technical skills.

To date, the team has carried out over 100 enterprise quality technology research projects and served more than 3000 individuals through quality training/Lean Six Sigma projects. For example, (1) the team collaborated with FAW and Great Wall Haval on projects related to automobile quality assurance data analysis, warranty claim prediction, and analysis of first failure mileage/interval mileage, enhancing the scientific design of quality assurance policies. The "FAW Liberation Quality and Cost Analysis System" project has been successfully implemented online. (2) The team implemented Lean Six Sigma theory at a Jiede factory, effectively reducing their scrap rate, saving direct economic losses of 2 million RMB, and training over 20 Lean Six Sigma Black Belts and Green Belts. (3) Collaborating with the China National Flight Automatic Control Research Institute, the team conducted a series of studies on the application of quality tools and methods such as experimental design. For instance, the "Optimization of Complex Electromechanical Product Manufacturing Process Parameters Project" increased the qualified rate of valve sleeve production from 75.3% to 96%, and the "Optimization Project for Electroplated Cutting Tools" tripled the tool life compared to before, increasing from an average of 2.5 meters to 8 meters.

The quality engineering team is dedicated to improving the quality management system, analyzing quality data, researching and applying quality engineering methods, six sigma management, quality of service, quality assurance management, equipment maintenance, etc. It also focuses on studying quality management theories and methods within the context of intelligent manufacturing and big data.

One of the team's notable accomplishments is compiling the Criteria for Six Sigma Management, adopted by over 50 enterprises, including Baosteel, TISCO, Aviation Industry Group of China, Haier and Shanghai Hitachi since 2007. The criteria serve as the Six Sigma Advanced enterprise evaluation standard of China Quality Association.

Additionally, the team has developed two technical reports of ISO/TC69/SC7, “Selected Illustrations of Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility Studies (ISO/TR12888:2010)” and “Selected Illustrations of Attribute Agreement Analysis (ISO/TR 14468:2010)”. This marks the first time that China, as a member of ISO, has completed two technical reports as a project leader in this field.

Over years, the quality engineering team has published more than 300 papers in quality engineering, including more than 200 SSCI/SCI papers and more than 100 EI papers.

The quality team has collaborated with several renowned enterprises such as Lenovo, Huawei and Dell, and jointly established the ICT Industry High Quality and Green Development Institute with the ICT Industry Alliance and worked in the automotive electronic machinery industry with companies such as Great Wall Motor, Changan Automobile, Midea, Kelon, Siemens, Jiede, CNNC Machinery.
