International Institute for Innovative Design and Intelligent Manufacturing of Tianjin University in Zhejiang was jointly established by Tianjin University and the People's Government of Shaoxing City (located in Zhejiang Province, China). Located in Yangjinghu Technology Venture Park, it covers 5,000 square meters for offices and R&D. The institute integrates innovative design, intelligent and green manufacturing, quality engineering, talent cultivation, technology commercialization and entrepreneurship.
Operating with an open management model, the institute has developed over 20 major research platforms and enterprise joint R&D centers, including academician workstations, provincial postdoctoral workstations, municipal new R&D institutions, key laboratories, a national-level intelligent manufacturing training base, and Digital Health Joint Innovation Center of Shaoxing. In 2023, it was approved as a National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) affiliated institution, enabling independent applications for NSFC projects and enhancing its research capabilities.
Aligned with Shaoxing's industrial needs, the institute emphasizes talent development and research transformation. It has introduced 21 innovation and entrepreneurship teams, resulting in over 20 industrial projects and the incubation of 23 technology-based companies in areas like high-end equipment, innovative design, low-carbon manufacturing, biomedicine, and electronics. In collaboration with Tianjin University, the institute established the Tianjin University Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Shaoxing Workstation and the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society Yuecheng Service Station, attracting expert resources to support Shaoxing's industrial development. Since its establishment, the institute has led or participated in 12 key projects, including those by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, NSFC, and Zhejiang Province, signed 34 industry-university research projects, and won 5 national and provincial awards.
Mission
The institute aims to serve as a bridge and leverage the strengths of universities and research institutions in science, technology, and talents to facilitate the transfer and industrial application of achievements, and to build a multi-functional and modern innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration base that integrates scientific and technological research and development, business incubation, and the cultivation of high-level talents.
Research Areas
1. Innovation Design:
Provides theoretical, methodical, and technical support for innovative-driven development and high-end equipment innovation design, driving disruptive changes in design and manufacturing models.
2. Green Intelligent Manufacturing
Provides innovative design and intelligent manufacturing technology support for the transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing to digital and intelligent; Based on technology such as intelligent sensing, intelligent analysis, intelligent control, and decision optimization, it carries out R&D of innovative design and intelligent manufacturing products for high-end equipment.
3. Quality Engineering
Utilizes quality planning, quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement technologies and management methods to continuously improve product and service quality and enhance the core competitiveness of enterprises.
4. Technology achievements transformation and innovation:
Establish a technology transfer center and provide project funds for enterprise incubation.
5. Innovative talent cultivation and innovation and entrepreneurship:
Build it into an open platform for talent introduction, cultivation and innovation and entrepreneurship, and support scientific research teams in innovation and entrepreneurship.
6. International Advanced Manufacturing Information Center:
Integrate the scientific and technological information and business resources of advanced manufacturing carefully, and promote industrialization with informatization.
